About Magnetic Therapy

What is Magnetic Therapy

Magnetic Therapy is used as non-medical treatment to help relieve pain and increase the body's natural healing process for faster recovery time. It is believe that magnets, when applied to the injured area, improve blood flow and oxygen levels thus reducing inflammation and enhancing the body's natural healing process. It is also suggested that the magnetic field may block pain signals to the brain. There have been recent breakthroughs in studies using magnetic therapy. In November of 1997 a study was conducted at Baylor College of Medicine. Due to the favourable results, this study was published in the Archives of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation.

How are the Poles of a Magnet Identified?

Many manufacturers color code the poles of the magnet, North is often blue, green or white. The NORTH POLE of Fastmag Magnetic Therapy Magnets are identified by a GREEN Surface. South is color coded red or black. The SOUTH POLE of Magnetic Therapy Magnets are identified by a RED Surface. The polarity can also be determined using another magnet of known polarity, using the principle of attraction and repulsion (opposite poles attract).

A compass can also be used to test polarity, the North Pole of the Magnet will repel the North side of the Compass Needle, but the South Pole of the magnet will attract the North Side of the compass needle. Warning, strong magnets can re-magnetize Compass Needles, which will then subsequently give a wrong indication.

Either pole can also attract iron objects such as pins and paper clips. That is because under the influence of a nearby magnet, each pin or paper clip becomes itself a temporary magnet, with its poles arranged in a way appropriate to magnetic attraction.

Why is Polarity Important?

The north and south poles of a magnet have opposite effects on the body. The north (or negative) pole is the healing polarity. Many products contain magnets that are facing the wrong way (south/positive pole facing the body), which can increase, instead of relieve, discomfort and slow the healing process

Pull Strength
Neodymium Rare Earth Magnet

The Pull Force is the force required to pull a magnet free from a flat steel plate using force perpendicular to the surface. This is the standard for testing  magnet pull strength. Air gaps and changes in surface material will substantially reduce the effectiveness of the pull force, or pull strength of the magnet.
